Since the inception on internet in 1990’s, very few companies had their own personalized websites. A few years later the internet boom saw a downfall and people thought that the industry had died.
Internet today has not only picked up but has made the whole world come under one roof, connected via the World Wide Web. The e-age technology we see today forces us to visualize a future where each and everything is available just by the click of a mouse.
This is the reason, why every big and small organization needs to have a professional website designed.
Your website is your online office representative and must be carefully designed and launched. In the midst of thousands of similar websites, you cannot afford to loose your visibility.
The web designer has to carefully collect all the useful company data, know about its goals, products, services, etc and then systematically layout a design with the company logo, color theme, navigation tool and most importantly the content. The site also needs to be regularly updated and maintained. With search engine optimization and other marketing tools, the site’s visibility on the search engine ranking must be taken care of. If these basic elements are perfectly implemented then within a short span of time, the site gains popularity and gradually starts climbing the ladder of success.
However, certain websites still fail to attract viewers or be able to maintain their loyalty. Ever thought why? Here are some reasons:
Splash Pages: Some websites make use of splash pages. These pages are nothing but a kind of welcome page. The visitor is welcomed and then asked to click on something to take him to the next level or the main homepage. Such splash pages waste the user’s time and he skips the site in search of another.
Heavy Animated Images: Flash or other gif animations do look attractive. But, if they are not correctly optimized or are heavy in size, they consume a long time to download. This also makes the site heavy in size. The designer tries to make the site look attractive, but forgets that the user will browse the site for company’s products and information.
Improper Navigation System: A navigation bar helps the user to navigate through the whole site and shows what all the company holds for him. If the navigation bar does not have proper drop down menus or is not present on every page of the site, the user might be lost and fail to read the useful company information.
Audio and Video Files: Some sites have heavy audio and video files which again take a long time to download and loose the visitor’s interest. Unless, necessary, these files must be avoided. Once, may be the visitor will hear and see your audio-video, but do not expect a repetitive visit from him.
No Breathing Space: Certain sites are so overcrowded with content and gifs that there is absolutely no empty or breathing space available. If you have heavy content, then the data flow must be carefully categorized into different sections and let these sections be on your navigation tool. A shabby look causes eye fatigue to the reader.
Too Many Pop-ups: Pop-ups are small windows which open every time you click or refresh a page. Use of too many pop-ups is annoying to the reader and he should have an option to control the same.
Not Updated or Maintained: Just launching a beautifully designed website does not solve your purpose. If the site is not updated or maintained or checked for broken links, then you might just have one time visitors. The visitor will not browse your site again for something what he has already seen.
Launching a successful website needs careful planning and organizing. If there are any loop wholes or mistakes, you start loosing your traffic and at large your profit.
